Who is Piedmont Hospital and What Do They Do?

With 22 hospitals, 65 urgent care centers, 25 QuickCare locations and nearly 2,000 physician practices across 1,400 locations, Piedmont Healthcare is one of the largest healthcare providers in the state of Georgia. Piedmont Healthcare prides itself on providing compassionate and high quality care to the 3.4 million patients they serve each year. In the past 5 years, they have provided programs for community benefit as well as free services to the Georgia community to the tune of $1.4 billion. Piedmont Healthcare has a workforce of over 37,000 professionals and was included on Forbes list of the Best Large Employers in the United States for 2022.

Our partner, Piedmont Atlanta, is Piedmont Healthcare’s flagship hospital. Piedmont Atlanta employs 4,000 healthcare workers and offers all major medical care, in particular specializing in Heart Care, Cancer Care, Transplant Medicine, Orthopaedic Care, Neurology Services, Women’s Care, and 24-hour emergency services. Piedmont Atlanta prides itself on combining “a personalized approach with innovative technologies to deliver treatments that set a new standard for excellence in care, including a state-of-the-art cancer center that offers complete therapy, disease management, prevention and wellness.”

History

Piedmont Atlanta Hospital has been providing healthcare to the Atlanta community for over a century. The hospital was founded in 1905 by two doctors – gastroenterologist, Dr. Ludwig Amster, and surgeon, Dr. Floyd W McRae Sr. Piedmont Hospital started as a 15-room sanatorium with just 10 beds, operating out of a converted house in downtown Atlanta, at Capitol Avenue and Crumley Street.

Piedmont soon began to expand, all the while keeping in mind its vision of providing cutting edge medical care in a comfortable environment where patients are treated as people. Piedmont continued to set the standard for medical care in Georgia over the century, having pioneered a specialized yet integrated approach to care. The hospital now has an approximately 500-bed facility and 900 physicians on staff. It has won numerous awards, including Distinguished Hospital Award for Patient Safety and Best in Atlanta for Overall Cardiac Care and Cardiac Surgery.

How Do I Get Involved?

You can learn about Piedmont Healthcare’s volunteer opportunities here. Volunteers provide invaluable support to this non-profit organization. Some benefits volunteers can receive in exchange for their service are complimentary parking, a free meal, a discount at their Health and Fitness Club, a free flu vaccine, and attendance at the Annual Volunteer Banquet.

This event benefits the Thomas F. Chapman Family Cancer Wellness Center which provides services like counseling, massage therapy and support groups for anyone affected by cancer, no matter where they are in their cancer journey.

Piedmont Fayette

Drive to End Cancer Golf Tournament

Location: Braelinn Golf Club
This event benefits the Comprehensive Cancer Program at Piedmont Fayette Hospital and also provides scholarships for students pursuing a career in healthcare.

Piedmont Henry

Par for the Cure Golf Tournament

Location: Sun City Peachtree Golf Club
This event benefits the Comprehensive Cancer Fund at Piedmont Henry.
