Vegan Restaurants in Atlanta
Atlanta is known for a wide range of different types of foods, and being a southern-based city, some of the most available options include crispy fried chicken, pork bbq and meat-and-three, as well as a diverse range of international cuisine from Asian to European and Middle Eastern. However, for vegans and vegetarians, hope has arisen over the last years as there has been a surprising growth of vegetarian and vegan restaurants in Atlanta, as well as cafes and food trucks across the city.
Several years ago it was definitely tricky to spot a place that catered exclusively to vegetarians and vegans, but with an increase in popularity of plant-based, meat-free options, not only for vegetarians or vegans but also for people looking to have a healthier lifestyle in general, restaurateurs took the initiative to broaden the horizon on vegan dining. Previously many menus only had one vegetarian option among the various meaty offerings, however, nowadays you can find many places dedicated to having solely vegan and vegetarian-based menus.
Take a look at some of the best vegan restaurants in Atlanta that are passionate about catering to those looking for meat-free and plant-based options across the city.
Grass VBQ Joint
This 100% plant-based BBQ joint puts a new spin on smoking veggies. Their signature Veet Brisket sandwich even has meat eaters coming back for more. You’ll be drooling even before setting your sights on these delicious plant-based takes on classic southern BBQ dishes, including smoked jerk wings, sweet, smoky, and spicy “chick’n” sandwich and “chick’n wiingz”. The accompanying dishes are just as satisfying, and you will definitely want to try them all. In case you’re indecisive, we recommend asking for the Grass Sampler plate on your first visit; this gives you two proteins, two sides, and two sauces to choose from, which you’ll enjoy with a freshly made brioche bun.

Lov’n It Live
For those who like it raw, Lov’n It Live has it all. Sourcing their ingredients from local farms, this restaurant is nothing short of plant-based fine dining. Just by looking at our vegetable-filled plates, we feel revitalized as the staggering antioxidant goodness that we’re about to consume couldn’t get any fresher than this. The menu is so mouth-wateringly delicious that it is difficult to choose just one main dish (which is why we recommend going in for the full 5-course dinner option). From the ultra-green “Vitality” soup, cabbage nut meat tacos, vegan lasaña made with zucchini noodles, pine nut cheese and sweet and sour stir-fried veggies, and marinated portobello mushroom steak, to some “vegan junk-food” options such as a lentil burger or stuffed avocado filled with nut meat, peppers and pico de gallo. Can vegan cuisine really be junk-food? We don’t know, but we certainly don’t feel guilty about these raw pleasures we enjoy at this fabulous family-friendly restaurant.

Cafe Sunflower Buckhead
Since 1994, this entirely plant-based restaurant, centrally located, prides itself not only on catering to vegetarians and vegans but also on impressing meat eaters along the way, with their faux meat and quinoa burgers. But the veggie burgers aside, one of our favorite dishes here is the Pesto Pasta, made with a good dose of fresh vegetables such as broccoli, spinach, mushrooms, artichoke, and capers, all slathered in a deliciously rich homemade walnut pesto sauce. Families and friends can enjoy Cafe Sunflower as they offer full lunch and dinner service. This luxurious vegan restaurant is also an excellent choice for a vegan date as you can enjoy plant-based starters, entrees, and desserts all in one sitting. Reservations are recommended, so be sure to use the contact information below to guarantee your table (though they also have a comfortable takeaway option if you prefer).

Hippie Hibachi
Hippie Hibachi is a great example of plant-based food being served in more ways than just burgers (we’re not hating on burgers – they’re still our faves!). This herbivorous twist on Japanese hibachi leaves even the most avid meat eaters questioning their food preferences. Your plant-based hibachi platter contains fried rice and lots of veggies, including zucchini, onion, carrots, and broccoli, and is then garnished with red cabbage, green onions, sesame seeds, and a drizzle of the famous yum-yum sauce. You can leave it at that or add a veggie or plant-based protein like mushrooms, tofu, eggplant, or chik’n (soy meat) and shr’mp (Konjac root). What’s more, at Hippie Hibachi the crew thrive on producing delicious and healthy food with minimal impact on the environment, by using eco-friendly packaging.
